Apex Trader Funding Review

The biggest US futures prop firm: cheap one-step evaluations, 100% of the first $25k, but capped six-payout accounts.

What clients complain about

  • Around 9% of Trustpilot ratings are 1-star and centre on payouts approved but not received for two to four weeks, accounts locked or closed without a stated violation, and support tickets left unanswered.
  • Older disputes date from 2023 payout delays and 2024, when traders publicly reported payout denials after rule changes applied mid-cycle.
  • Positive reviews, the large majority, cite clear rules, low evaluation prices and payouts that arrive as promised.

Company and trust

Apex Trader Funding Inc was incorporated in Texas in July 2021 by founder and CEO Darrell Martin and operates from Austin. It is a futures-only evaluation firm: every evaluation and funded Performance Account is a simulated account, and payouts are paid from Apex's own revenue rather than from real exchange trading. No US financial regulator licenses this activity, so the firm's Texas corporate registration is the only public record of the business.

Scale is Apex's strongest trust signal. It is the most-reviewed futures prop firm on Trustpilot, with a 4.2 score across roughly 20,800 reviews in August 2026, and reports several hundred million dollars in cumulative payouts. Its reputation is mixed, though: 2023 payout delays, mid-stream rule changes in 2024 and an ongoing stream of 1-star reviews about locked accounts are why it rates below FTMO or Topstep on reliability.

Challenge rules

Apex rebuilt its product on 1 March 2026. New evaluations are one-time purchases with 30 days of access in four sizes: $25k, $50k, $100k and $150k (the old 75k, 250k and 300k accounts were retired). Profit targets are $1,500, $3,000, $6,000 and $9,000; trailing thresholds are $1,000, $2,000, $3,000 and $4,000; contract caps are 4, 6, 8 and 12 minis (10x in micros).

Each size comes in two versions. The Intraday Trail has no daily loss limit but its threshold trails your peak open profit tick by tick. The EOD Trail only recalculates at the 4:59 PM ET close and adds a daily loss limit of $500 to $2,000. In both, the threshold stops trailing once it reaches $100 above the starting balance. There is no minimum number of trading days and no consistency rule during the evaluation, but there are no resets either: fail and you buy a new evaluation.

Profit split and payouts

Funded traders keep 100% of the first $25,000 paid out per account and 90% after that. To request a payout in 2026 you need five qualifying days (at least $100 profit per day on 25k, rising to $350 on 150k EOD), a balance above the safety net (starting balance plus the drawdown amount plus $100, so $52,100 on a 50k), no single day at 50% or more of the cycle's profit, and a request of at least $500.

The catch is the payout ladder. Each Performance Account allows six payouts, each capped by size and payout number: a 50k EOD account can withdraw $1,500 on the first request and $3,000 on the sixth, a lifetime maximum of $13,000; a 150k Intraday account tops out at $21,500. After the sixth payout the account closes. US traders receive ACH; everyone else is paid through Plane, typically five to eleven business days end to end, automated since March 2026.

Platforms and instruments

Apex runs on Rithmic, Tradovate and WealthCharts data connections, which opens up NinjaTrader, TradingView (through Tradovate), Quantower, Sierra Chart and more than a dozen other front ends; Level 1 data is included and Level 2 depth costs extra through the platform. Positions can be held on CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX futures: equity index contracts such as ES, NQ and their micros, currency futures, energies, interest-rate products and crypto futures.

Two limits matter. All metals futures, including gold, silver, micro gold, copper, platinum and palladium, are suspended on 2026 accounts with no return date. And Apex is futures only: there is no forex spot, CFD, stock or options trading, so traders coming from MetaTrader firms need to learn a futures platform first.

Trading restrictions

Every position must be flat by 4:59 PM ET; nothing is held overnight or over the weekend. Normal news trading is allowed, including holding a directional trade through a scheduled release, but placing opposing orders on both sides of a release, hedging in the same or correlated contracts and opposite exposure across your own accounts are prohibited. The old 5:1 risk-reward, one-direction and maximum-adverse-excursion rules were scrapped in March 2026.

Automation is the hard line: bots, algorithms, high-frequency systems and anything that trades without a human actively present are banned on all account types, and letting a third-party copy service or another person trade your account ends the account. Copying trades across your own Apex accounts is fine, and up to 20 Performance Accounts can be run at once.

Support

Support runs through a ticket-based helpdesk portal and email at [email protected], backed by a large Help Center that documents every rule, fee and payout table; there is no live chat or published phone line. Turnaround is the weak point: Trustpilot's 1-star reviews in 2025–2026 repeatedly describe tickets that go unanswered for weeks, especially around locked accounts and payout status, and Apex replies to only a small share of negative reviews. Routine questions are usually answered within the same or next business day.

Who is it for

Apex fits discretionary futures day traders who want the cheapest way into a funded account and are happy to run several accounts at once, harvesting five or six payouts from each before rolling into a fresh evaluation. The no-minimum-days evaluation, the absence of a consistency rule until the funded stage and the 100% split on the first $25,000 are genuinely trader-friendly.

It is a poor fit for swing traders who hold overnight, for anyone whose edge relies on automation, for metals traders, and for traders who want a single account that pays out indefinitely. Residents of the 84 restricted countries, which include much of the Middle East and Africa plus Turkey, Pakistan and Vietnam, cannot join at all.

How to open an account

Apex Trader Funding

Before you apply

Verification time
Performance Account is created within about 6 hours of paying the activation fee; identity and residency checks run at sign-up and before the first payout
Documents required
Government-issued ID (passport, driver's licence, state ID or residence permit) plus proof of residence and a bank account in the same country

Evaluations bought since 1 March 2026 are one-time purchases with 30 days of access, no auto-renewal and no resets. Business (LLC) accounts must be selected at sign-up and cannot be converted later. Payouts go by ACH for US residents and through Plane for everyone else.

  1. 1.

Pick a size and a drawdown type

Choose a $25k, $50k, $100k or $150k evaluation and decide between the Intraday Trail (cheaper, floor moves with open profit) and the EOD Trail (dearer, floor moves only at the 4:59 PM ET close, with a daily loss limit).

  2. 2.

Apply a coupon and pay once

List prices in 2026 run from $167 (25k Intraday) to $1,490 (150k EOD), but 50–90% codes such as SAVENOW are live almost permanently, so a 50k evaluation usually costs well under $100. Card payment only; the purchase buys 30 days of access.

  3. 3.

    Connect Rithmic, Tradovate or WealthCharts

Log into NinjaTrader, TradingView, Quantower or another supported front end with the credentials Apex emails you and trade CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX futures within the contract cap for your size.

  4. 4.

Hit the target and stay above the trailing threshold

Reach the profit target ($1,500 on 25k up to $9,000 on 150k) without touching the trailing threshold. There is no minimum number of days, so a strong single session can pass an evaluation.

  5. 5.

Activate the Performance Account within 7 days

Pay the one-time PA activation fee ($69–$159 depending on size and type) within 7 calendar days of the pass, or choose the No Activation Fee plan at checkout instead. The PA uses the same login as the evaluation.

  6. 6.

Build five qualifying days and request payouts

Post five profitable days above the size-specific floor, keep your biggest day under 50% of the cycle's profit, clear the safety net, then request at least $500 from the dashboard. Each PA allows six payouts before it closes.

Good to know before you start

Why you have to verify your identity

Why you have to verify your identity

Every regulated broker and exchange must confirm who you are before you can trade or withdraw. Expect to upload a passport or national ID and a proof of address under three months old (utility bill or bank statement). Most platforms approve documents within a few hours; a mismatch between your ID and the name on your payment method is the most common reason for delays.

How funding your account works

How funding your account works

Deposits by card or e-wallet usually land within minutes; bank wires take one to three business days and may carry a fee from your bank. Withdrawals go back to the method you deposited with, which is an anti-money-laundering rule rather than a platform choice. Start with the minimum, confirm a small withdrawal works, then scale up.

What to expect on your first trade

What to expect on your first trade

Open a demo account first if the platform offers one, then place a small live trade on a liquid market such as EUR/USD or BTC/USD. Check the spread, the commission and the swap before you confirm. Set a stop-loss on every position — losing a small amount quickly is the cheapest lesson in trading.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an Apex Trader Funding evaluation cost in 2026?

List prices run from $167 for a 25k Intraday Trail to $1,490 for a 150k EOD Trail, paid once for 30 days of access, but discount codes of 50–90% are available almost all year. After passing you pay a one-time activation fee of roughly $69–$159, or choose the No Activation Fee plan at a higher upfront price.

What is the Apex profit split?

You keep 100% of the first $25,000 in payouts per account and 90% after that. Each Performance Account is limited to six payouts, capped per request, before it closes.

Is there a daily loss limit?

Not on Intraday Trail accounts. EOD Trail accounts carry a daily loss limit of $500 (25k) to $2,000 (150k) alongside the end-of-day trailing threshold.

How does the trailing threshold work?

The threshold sits $1,000 to $4,000 below your balance depending on size and rises with your peak balance (tick by tick on Intraday, at the 4:59 PM ET close on EOD). It locks once it reaches $100 above the starting balance.

When can I request my first payout?

After five profitable days above the size-specific minimum, with your balance above the safety net (drawdown plus $100 over the starting balance), no day making up 50% or more of the cycle's profit, and a request of at least $500. First payouts are capped at $1,000 to $2,500 by size.

Can I hold trades overnight or use a bot?

No. All positions must be closed by 4:59 PM ET every day, and automated or algorithmic trading is banned on every account type. Copying between your own Apex accounts is allowed.

Does Apex accept traders from my country?

Apex serves 100+ countries including the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, India and Brazil, but excludes 84 jurisdictions such as China, Russia, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, South Africa, Pakistan and Vietnam. Your ID, address and bank account must all be in an accepted country.
