A trading journal that fills itself
Every position on a connected account — opened by the expert or by your own hand — is recorded as it happens: the prices, the stop it started with, the lots, the commission and swap, and the R it returned. The only part you write is the part only you know.
Every month opens on its own summary, with the trades beneath it newest first. Open a row for the prices, the stop and target history, your note and the chart pictures.

What gets recorded
Four things go into every row, and only the last of them asks anything of you.
The trade itself
Symbol, direction, lot size, the price it opened and closed at and the exact times — read from the terminal rather than typed in afterwards.
The risk it took
The stop the trade opened with, how much of the account balance that put at risk, and the R multiple the trade finally returned.
What the broker took
Gross profit, commission and swap kept apart, so the net figure in your journal is the one that actually reached the account.
Your side of it
A note, up to twelve tags, and chart pictures — the expert saves one when the position opens and one when it closes, and you can add your own.
The month, read back to you
Recording trades is the easy half. These are the questions a full month of them can answer.
The month in figures
Win rate, net result, average R, profit factor, expectancy, payoff, largest win and loss, deepest drawdown and your longest runs either way.
Running total, day by day
An equity curve across the month and a calendar showing which days made money and which gave it back.
Where the result came from
The same month broken down by symbol, session, weekday, hour, your own tags, how long trades were held, and whether they came from a signal.
Risk per trade
Your usual risk, your largest, and the trades that sat outside your own norm — the four-percent one hiding among the half-percents.
Execution quality
How your fills compared with the prices we published, the slippage either way, the average spread and what the difference cost over the month.
Risk-adjusted figures
Sharpe, Sortino, SQN, recovery factor and a capped Kelly, measured per trade and shown only once enough closed trades stand behind them.
Why it stays filled in
- Nothing to write down after the trade — the expert reports it as it happens
- Trades you place by hand on the same account are recorded too, marked as yours
- Every trade keeps the stop it opened with, so R means the same thing all month
- Filter by symbol, direction, origin, result or a word in your own notes
- Export any month to CSV and take it wherever you want to work
- Private to your account — nothing in your journal is ever published
Your journal is yours
The journal is private to your member account. It is not published, not shown on any public page, and not shared with the brokers. Exporting a month to CSV is the only way anything leaves it, and only you can do that.
Start your journal in three steps
Approval usually takes 48–72 hours. You keep full control of your broker account at all times.

Frequently asked questions
Is the trading journal free?
Yes. Approved members get the full journal at no cost. Access is unlocked by registering our referral code with a partner broker — there is no subscription and no card.
Do I have to type my trades in?
No. The expert reports each position as it opens, changes and closes, so the figures are already there when you look. The only things you add are the note and the tags.
Does it record trades I place by hand?
Yes. Every trade on the paired account is recorded, whether the expert opened it or you did. Trades that came from one of our signals are marked so you can compare the two.
How far back does the journal go?
Individual trades are kept for twelve months. Older months keep their summary, so the monthly statistics survive even after the rows behind them have been pruned.
Can anyone else see my journal?
No. It is private to your member account, never published, and never shared with a broker. There is no public profile and no shared link.
Which platform does it work with?
MetaTrader, through the BrokerSift expert. Pair the expert with your terminal and it reports the trades on that account to your journal.
What is an R multiple?
R is a trade’s result measured in units of what it risked. A trade that risked $100 and made $210 returned 2.1R. It lets you compare trades of different sizes on the same scale.
Can I export my trades?
Yes. Any month exports to CSV with one click, filters included, so you can take the same rows into a spreadsheet or your own analysis.
Can I journal more than one account?
Yes. Each connected account keeps its own journal, and you switch between them at the top of the page. A demo account and a funded one stay separate.
What about trades from before I connected the expert?
They are not in the journal. It records what the expert reports, so it starts at the moment your terminal is paired rather than reaching backwards.
Are chart screenshots saved automatically?
The expert saves a picture when a position opens and another when it closes. You can add your own on top of those; a trade holds up to twelve pictures in total.
Does the journal tell me what to trade?
No. It records what you did and counts it honestly. What you change afterwards is your decision — the journal only makes sure the decision is based on figures rather than memory.
An online trading journal for forex and gold
A trading journal records each position you take and what happened to it, so that a month of trading can be measured instead of remembered. Ours is built into your BrokerSift dashboard and filled in by the MetaTrader expert: you never open a spreadsheet, and no trade is missing because the day went badly.
Every row carries the symbol, direction, lot size, open and close prices, the stop the trade began with, commission, swap and the net result in the account currency, plus the R multiple. On top of that sit the monthly statistics — win rate, profit factor, expectancy, drawdown, streaks — and breakdowns by symbol, session, weekday, hour and your own tags.
The trade journal is free for approved members and works alongside the free forex signals and the money management expert: take the signal, let the expert size and manage it, then read at the end of the month what the whole set of decisions actually returned.
What is a trading journal?
A trading journal is a record of every trade you take: what you bought or sold, at what price, with what stop, how much you risked and what it returned. Kept properly, it turns a year of trading from a feeling into a set of figures you can actually check.
The hard part has never been understanding why a journal matters. It is filling one in. After a losing session almost nobody wants to open a spreadsheet and write the trade down, which is precisely the trade that most needed recording.
Why an automatic journal beats a spreadsheet
A journal the expert writes for you is complete by default. There are no missing days, no trades quietly left out because they were embarrassing, and no transcription mistakes — the prices, times and costs come straight from the terminal.
That completeness is what makes the statistics worth reading. A win rate computed from the trades you felt like recording tells you nothing; a win rate computed from all of them tells you whether your edge is real, and the breakdowns tell you which part of your trading it lives in.
Get more out of your journal
Write the note first
Record why you took the trade while it is still open. A note written after the result is a note about the result.
Keep tags few
Five tags you use every time beat thirty you use once. The breakdowns only mean something when a tag has trades behind it.
Read it monthly
Daily figures are mostly noise. Sit down once a month with the breakdowns and look for the one that is clearly worst.
Watch the risk, not the wins
The risk-per-trade chart finds the outlier that undoes a good month long before the win rate does.
