Regulation and safety of funds
OANDA operates through a group of separately regulated entities rather than one global license. US clients trade with OANDA Corporation, registered with the CFTC and a member of the NFA. UK clients use OANDA Europe Limited, authorized by the FCA (reference 542574). Australian clients trade with OANDA Australia Pty Ltd, holder of ASIC license AFSL 412981, while Canadian and Singapore clients are covered by CIRO and MAS respectively.
In December 2025 the OANDA group was acquired by FTMO, the Czech prop-trading company, from previous owner CVC Capital Partners, which had held OANDA since 2018. FTMO has said it will run OANDA as a standalone regulated business rather than merge it into the FTMO challenge model, and the deal needed sign-off from five separate regulators before closing. Client funds are held in segregated accounts in each jurisdiction, and negative balance protection applies for retail clients in regions where it is required.
Fees and spreads
OANDA's default Standard pricing is spread-only, with no separate commission; EUR/USD spreads typically run from around 1.0-1.7 pips depending on conditions. A Core pricing tier, generally requiring a larger account (commonly cited around $10,000), offers tighter raw spreads from about 0.1-0.4 pips plus a per-side commission of roughly $3.50-$5 per $100,000 traded.
There is no deposit fee. Withdrawal fees vary by method and region: the first card withdrawal each month is typically free with charges after that, bank wires under a certain threshold can carry a flat fee (commonly cited around $20), and PayPal withdrawals can also incur a charge. An inactivity fee (cited around $10-$14/month) applies in some regions after 12 months of no trading activity, though this does not apply everywhere OANDA operates, so traders should confirm the terms for their specific entity.
Platforms and tools
OANDA supports MetaTrader 4 in all regions, with MetaTrader 5 available in most markets outside the US. Its own OANDA Trade platform runs on web, desktop, and mobile with customizable charting, and the mobile app has been recognized in industry rankings as one of the stronger apps in the sector.
A direct TradingView integration lets clients execute live trades from TradingView's charting interface in supported regions (including the US, UK, and Canada), and an API/Algo Labs offering supports automated and algorithmic trading. Research tools include the MarketPulse news and analysis service and an economic calendar.
Deposits and withdrawals
Funding methods vary by entity but commonly include bank transfer, debit/credit card, and PayPal (where offered); OANDA's crypto arm also supports funding through Paxos-backed crypto rails in the US. There is no minimum deposit for a standard account.
Withdrawals generally return to the original funding source. Card and e-wallet withdrawals are usually processed faster than bank wires. Fee-free allowances (such as one free card withdrawal per month) exist in some regions, with charges applying beyond that or for smaller wire transfers.
Customer support
OANDA offers live chat, phone, email, and in some regions WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and SMS support, with US support hours running from Sunday 4pm to Friday 6pm ET. Support is primarily in English, though regional entities may offer local-language support.
Independent review sites generally rate OANDA's support as responsive, and the company has a policy of replying to the large majority of negative Trustpilot reviews. Some customer complaints on Trustpilot cite delays in withdrawal processing and identity-verification turnaround times, which is worth weighing against the otherwise solid regulatory track record.
Who is it for
OANDA suits traders who value a long operating history, multi-jurisdiction regulation, and transparent published pricing over the absolute tightest raw spreads. Its no-minimum-deposit, micro-lot structure (trading from 1 unit of currency) makes it accessible for beginners and small accounts, while the Core pricing tier and API access give more active traders a lower-cost, algorithmic-friendly option.
It is a particularly relevant option for US-based traders, since relatively few CFTC/NFA-regulated forex brokers remain active in that market. Traders chasing the very lowest ECN commissions or the widest instrument list may find other brokers a better fit.

Good to know before you start

Why you have to verify your identity
Every regulated broker and exchange must confirm who you are before you can trade or withdraw. Expect to upload a passport or national ID and a proof of address under three months old (utility bill or bank statement). Most platforms approve documents within a few hours; a mismatch between your ID and the name on your payment method is the most common reason for delays.

How funding your account works
Deposits by card or e-wallet usually land within minutes; bank wires take one to three business days and may carry a fee from your bank. Withdrawals go back to the method you deposited with, which is an anti-money-laundering rule rather than a platform choice. Start with the minimum, confirm a small withdrawal works, then scale up.

What to expect on your first trade
Open a demo account first if the platform offers one, then place a small live trade on a liquid market such as EUR/USD or BTC/USD. Check the spread, the commission and the swap before you confirm. Set a stop-loss on every position — losing a small amount quickly is the cheapest lesson in trading.

Trust & reputation
What clients complain about
Recurring negative-review themes center on withdrawal delays and requests for additional verification documents during account reviews. Some reviewers describe unhelpful or repetitive customer service handling, and a smaller number allege disputes over trade execution or stop-loss handling. Positive reviews more often cite platform reliability and research quality, and OANDA has a visible practice of publicly replying to negative Trustpilot reviews.
